Where does the pricing data come from?

TCGplayer's community-sourced market data, refreshed daily. Every morning a mirror pulls the full catalog (set → rarity → card) and tags each card with prices for Near Mint, Lightly Played, Moderately Played, Heavily Played, and Damaged. The mirror records the date so every total on DisplayCase carries the same `asOfDate` stamp.

Because the pull is shared, two collectors running DisplayCase on the same morning see the same number for the same card at the same grade. Free accounts get today's snapshot; Tracker Pro adds daily auto-refresh and a rolling 60-day price history per card.

How do grades map to TCGplayer conditions (NM / LP / MP / HP / DMG)?

Each card you add carries one of five grade buckets: Near Mint, Lightly Played, Moderately Played, Heavily Played, or Damaged (NM / LP / MP / HP / DMG — the standard TCGplayer condition ladder). Your binder total multiplies the grade’s published factor against the PSA 10 ceiling, so a played Charizard contributes what the catalog actually says a played Charizard is worth that morning, not the best-case slab number.

If you grade a card higher than the catalog supports, the picker rejects the value. If a (card, grade) row is missing for today’s pull, DisplayCase falls back to the most recent NM row for that card and applies the grade multiplier — labelled "estimated" in the chip so you know it is a derived figure, not a fresh recording.

How does AI grading work?

The AI grader reads the photos you upload and returns a single TCGplayer condition (one of NM / LP / MP / HP / DMG) with a confidence level and a short reasoning call. It focuses on centering and the kinds of wear you can see in a photo — whitening, creases, corner and edge damage.

The model is trained on real human grading feedback: every $4.49 paid request feeds the same training loop, so the estimate improves as more collectors send cards through. AI grades are always labelled as estimates — not a substitute for a real slab quote. Graded (PSA / BGS / CGC) and Professional slab pricing is on the roadmap and not yet priced.

Who is this app for?

Collectors who care about what their cards are actually worth. The product is for someone tracking a binder on a shelf — not someone listing inventory on a marketplace, and not someone looking for a price-guessing tool.

DisplayCase is a Pokemon-only tracker — pricing, catalogue, and condition grades are scoped to the Pokemon TCG catalog.

What is next?

Two-stage roadmap: Now and Later. Now is Pokemon end-to-end — every modern set plus the back catalogue with clean community-sourced price data, binders, wishlist, and the daily portfolio total.

Later is AI-assisted grading and richer mobile scanning: snap a binder page, DisplayCase reads the cards, suggests a probable set, and files them under the right grade. AI-suggested grades are always labelled as suggestions, never as a substitute for a real slab. The human grading service ($4.49 per request) feeds the AI loop over time, which is why the service is paid rather than free.
